Who We Are

Welcome to Meandering Middles! We are two middle aged, middle income, and somewhat saggy around the middle people who love to travel. We know there are plenty of ‘middles’ like us out there and this website is our way of reaching out and connecting with them!

Look, the internet is filled to the brim with websites documenting the adventures of the young digital nomads of the world. You know them, the twenty-somethings who have turned their back on the traditional 9-5 (or perhaps the traditional 9-5 turned it’s back on them but that’s another discussion) and have instead embraced a life of adventure. Home is wherever they lay their heads tonight, and their ‘offices’ are as diverse as they are. They are an awesome bunch, an inspiration to everyone out there longing for the freedom of the road, and we devour their content regularly

But, as much as we love them, we are not one of them. We, to varying degrees, embraced the 9-5. We worked hard, advanced professionally, and saved diligently. We bought and sold houses, maybe had families, but we are now at a point in our lives where we can enjoy the fruits of our labors. We have the same dreams as those twenty-something digital nomads: a desire to wander, to become lost in other cultures, different foods, and ways of living. We want to smell the African bush in the earliest hours of the morning, we want to make pierogis with locals in Krakow, and eat bor bor for breakfast in Cambodia. But we don’t want to do it at $40 a day.

We may stay in hostels or camp along the way, but we don’t need to. We may shop for food and prep it ourselves or eat local street food, but we may also make a reservation at a five-star restaurant and enjoy a delicacy or two. The theater, symphony, ballet, or opera are all on our list of things to check out, and we don’t need to sit in the back row to do it.

We are not wealthy, but we are not part of the budget travel crowd either. You could say we are somewhere… in the middle.

So if you find yourself somewhere in the middle too, come join us! We’ll talk all things travel related, and document our adventures as we go along. And we’d love to hear about yours too! Drop us a line at middlers <at> meanderingmiddles.com.
